With the participation of 30 speakers from around the world and participants from Latin America, and of course, Argentina as host, the “BA Summit 9.4.2019”, organized by the World Free Trade Zone Organization (WFZO), started this Tuesday (2019).
This meeting serves to highlight the importance of free trade zones for strengthening the world economy. Lisandro Ganuza, director of WFZO for South America, highlighted that “we must all begin to understand that free trade zones are a pillar of foreign trade for this new stage that Argentina is carrying out in its reintegration into global trade. This happens for two reasons: 1. The knowledge economy, in whose bill the free trade zone is included. 2. The logistics hubs, that is, the relationship that free trade zones have as logistics hubs through the ports, the Paraná Paraguay Waterways and the development of what could be Vaca Muerta.”
“I am convinced that free zones are the future of our foreign trade,” Ganuza said forcefully in an exclusive interview with Aduana News.
Free trade zones: antennas for new opportunities
Martín Ibarra, Regional Vice President of the World Free Zone Organization, explained the reasons for the day's success: "All the exhibitors agreed on the importance of the free zone mechanism to highlight Argentina's new strategic businesses: free zones to promote technology services, free zones to promote e-commerce, free zones to make fracking more efficient, or a technique for extracting oil from Vaca Muerta, free zones to make the Paraná Paraguay Hydrovia, which links Argentina with Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil and Bolivia, more profitable," Ibarra stressed.
Regarding the relevance of international participation, Ibarra highlighted: “In addition, international experiences from different countries have been shared, showing how free trade zones have become antennas for new opportunities.”
The agenda of the Buenos Aires Summit continues this Wednesday with topics such as industry 4.0; e-commerce; logistics and logistics hubs; OIL & Gas: Vaca Muerta and Off Shore; and OECD, Customs and Free Trade Zones, among others.
Aduana News is the first Argentine customs newspaper to launch its digital version. With 20 years of experience, its publications and initiatives aim to provide the most relevant knowledge on customs issues in order to contribute to safe trade in the region.
