The Secretary of the Government of Agroindustry of the Nation, Luis Miguel Etchevehere, and the Governor of Tierra del Fuego, Rosana Bertone, participated in the inauguration of two docks in the ports of Ushuaia and Almanza, which were built through a national and provincial agreement, with an investment of $20,8 million, from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
"What most stimulates each of those who work in the agro-industry is that things begin and end, because they have a very important value to promote rural roots, and in turn generate more job opportunities for all those involved in the fishing chain" highlighted Etchevehere, stating that "We are inaugurating a project that contributes to fishermen having better production conditions to be more competitive, and that fishing has greater traceability in the product to market«.
Governor Bertone said that "this is the result of joint work between artisanal fishermen, the cluster, the University of Tierra del Fuego, the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), and the Secretariat of Government of Agroindustry. The initiative is a starting point to improve the activity, to look at the sea from Ushuaia, and to value Tierra del Fuego products, and recognize the work of aquaculturists and fishermen who make it possible for us to have our star maritime products."
Security and facilitation
This program of works in one of the most important fishing and aquaculture locations in Tierra del Fuego, and benefits more than 50 artisanal fishermen of molluscs (mussels and mussels), crustaceans (crab and king crab) and fish (sea bass and silverside), and guarantees a positive impact on the safety of the activity and the facilitation and equality for fishermen in loading and unloading operations, the quality and traceability of the product, as well as the optimization of inspection and control in the catch records and centralization of the activity.
In Ushuaia, the pier, which was built with concrete blocks 1 metre wide, 2,5 metres long and 1,1 metres high, it has a platform measuring 14 by 15 metres, which allows for the docking of boats without any difficulty, and at the same time easy access for vehicles to transport cargo.
In Almanza, the new structure of the town is transparent, and is filled with local stone., and has the shape of an "L".
In Tierra del Fuego, various measures were carried out to improve the conditions of fishing activity and productivity, such as work to institutionally strengthen the Artisanal Fishing Cluster, through promotional and dissemination activities, and the implementation of a direct sales system for fresh fish in the city of Río Grande. This, which benefits more than 60 fishermen, is also part of an agreement with the province and the national agro-industrial portfolio, through the Provincial Agricultural Services Program (PROSAP).
