The deputy foreign ministers of Argentina, Leopoldo Sahores, and Paraguay, Víctor Verdún, spoke this Tuesday (09.04.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX) in Buenos Aires about the bilateral agenda between their countries, according to official sources.
The meeting took place within the framework of the meeting of the Political Affairs Subcommittee of the Political Coordination and Integration Commission between Argentina and Paraguay, one of the main mechanisms for high-level political coordination between the two countries, according to the Foreign Ministry's statement.
In a review of the busy bilateral agenda, the challenges and opportunities in terms of border integration and infrastructure, fish resources, defense and security, technical, regional and multilateral cooperation, among others, were addressed.
Both officials "expressed their satisfaction with the progress that took place at the meeting on April 3 between the General Port Administration (AGP) and the users of the Waterway"On this occasion, the premises were established for an agreement that will be finalized in the coming days in order to resolve the issue and continue with the treatment of the underlying issues that will allow the development of a competitive and efficient logistics route for the benefit of the entire region," according to the statement.

With regards to strengthening territorial integration and physical connectivity, The delegations agreed to coordinate, towards the end of May, the next meeting of the Joint Technical Group (JTG) on Infrastructure and to convene the respective meetings of the Working Groups of Pilar-Puerto Cano and Clorinda-Puerto Falcón, border crossings that connect both countries.
They also committed to holding, during the second half of this year, the meetings of the Integration Committees and to prioritize the steps of Posadas-Encarnacion, Itati-Ita Cora and Ayolas-Ituzaingo.
At the regional level, the Argentine Foreign Minister congratulated Paraguay for hosting the 54th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), which will take place in Asunción from June 26 to 28.
In the area of technical cooperation, both countries celebrated the achievements in areas of common benefit and expressed interest in consolidating the Fifth Bilateral Technical Cooperation Program in thematic areas of various topics of Agroindustry, Health, Environment, Public Management and Security, Justice and Human Rights.
Finally, Vice-Chancellor Sahores expressed his gratitude for the "permanent support shown by the Paraguayan Government to the Argentine position on the Question of the Malvinas Islands", as well as its constant support in all shared multilateral forums, while highlighting its active participation in the United Nations, the Common Market of the South (Mercosur), the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the OAS.
