The Republic of Uruguay reached a beneficial feasibility agreement with China, initiated in September 2021, to work on a free trade agreement.
This was reported on Wednesday (13.07.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) by President Luis Lacalle Pou, during a press conference held at the Executive Tower of Montevideo, where he also highlighted the position of “open up to the world"that the South American country has.
The president said: "These agreements mean prosperity, opportunities and work," and added that since the beginning of the Government the focus has been on trying to sell raw materials, national industrial and technological products.
Lacalle Pou also stated that an agreement was reached that is beneficial for both countries and that it is a priority for the Government to try to trade Uruguay's products, raw materials, industrial products and technology.
The idea is not to move forward alone, but together with Mercosur, but what our country is not willing to do "is to stay still," the Uruguayan president stated.
According to this, he added that he communicated with the leaders of the parties that make up the coalition and with the opposition parties to report on the progress and that Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo did the same with the governments of the bloc through his counterparts or the ambassadors accredited to Uruguay.
“This is a cutting-edge, comprehensive free trade agreement (FTA), which was advanced taking into account national interests and which will include instances of dialogue with representatives of industry, commerce, science and technology,” Lacalle Pou said.
