Uruguay opens the market for Argentine queen bees

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Nation informs that the Eastern Republic of Uruguay approved, through its Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, the entry of queen bees from Argentine beekeeping farms, a regional product with great opportunities for sale abroad.

Last month, Uruguayan health authorities accepted the request for an International Veterinary Certificate (identified as Expo Abejas Uruguay April 2018) made by the National Service of Health and Agri-Food Quality (Senasa), in a decision that was celebrated by the sector, through the Association of Beekeeping Farms Producing Certified Live Material.

"It is another great achievement to advance in the markets of the region with products of SMEs in regional economiesIn March, the group of beekeeping farms that we supported to achieve their first export of queen bees to France, asked us to begin the procedures for the opening of the Uruguayan market and after the work of the different areas of Agroindustry, in July we can respond to the request," said the Minister of Agroindustry, Luis Miguel Etechvehere.

Markets in the region

In this sense, the provision taken by the Uruguayan government supports the work carried out by the Ministry of Agroindustry of the Nation, through the Secretariat of Food and Bioeconomy, from where the National Beekeeping Council is coordinated; the Secretariat of Agroindustrial Markets and Senasa, to achieve the Opening of markets in Latin AmericaIt is worth remembering that during this month, Brazil once again acquired Argentine fractionated honey, more than a decade after the last entry of this product.

Value added

Exports of living material represent the sale of high value-added products and in the first four months were exported 19.120 queen bees for a value of US$249.822, that is, US$13/queen bee and depending on the destination, the value per unit can reach up to US$18.
