Trump: “Trade negotiations with China are going very well”

-

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that U.S. trade negotiations with China are progressing well, as two top U.S. officials plan a visit to China next week for a new round of talks.

Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin expect to fly to Beijing the week of March 25 to meet with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He, who is scheduled to travel to Washington the following week, according to an administration official.

Talks between China and the United States are in the final stages, with a deadline for an agreement at the end of April, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

"China is doing very well. Talks with China are going very well," Trump said in response to a question at the end of his White House news conference with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

Washington and Beijing have imposed tariffs on each other's products that have cost the world's two largest economies billions of dollars, disrupting markets and disrupting manufacturing and supply chains.
