After almost a decade out of the water, The icebreaker Almirante Irizar was able to complete one of the missions contemplated within the 115th voyage it carried out within the framework of the 2018/2019 Summer Antarctic Campaign (CAV). This is the second voyage undertaken by the legendary ship and, as a corollary, the crew posed for the traditional Antarctic photo.
After setting sail last Thursday, December 20, 2018 from the Port of Buenos Aires bound for the white continent with the objective of supplying the 6 permanent bases (Marambio, Carlini, Orcadas, San Martín, Esperanza and Belgrano II) and the seven temporary bases (Almirante Brown, Matienzo, Primavera, Cámara, Melchior, Petrel and Decepción).
This new Antarctic campaign was coordinated and carried out by the Joint Antarctic Command, which reports to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs also worked together, since this operation requires the greatest collaboration of the entire civil-military group.
