Event “Strengthening safe trade between Uruguay and the United States” held

The meeting “Strengthening safe trade between Uruguay and the United States” was carried out
This Tuesday (15.11.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) in the city of Montevideo, with the presence of authorities
nationals, the United States Embassy, ​​representatives of foreign trade unions,
companies, Authorized Economic Operators (AEO), among others.

The activity, organized by the Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, aimed to disseminate the figure of the Authorized Economic Operator and the Mutual Recognition Agreements as tools for Trade Facilitation and Security in the international supply chain.

Committed to that purpose, the event was chaired by the National Director of Customs, Jaime Borgiani, the Director of the CTPAT Houston headquarters, Cristóbal Hernández, the Manager of the Foreign Trade Management Area, Alvaro Palmigiani and the Director of the Qualified Economic Operator Department, Mayra Pérez.

After the opening, the organizers indicated that it was spread the Mutual Recognition Agreement – ​​signed between the Customs of Uruguay and the United States on July 19, 2022– , and the challenges to its implementation.

Additionally, the following were discussed: new security criteria (generalities), the importance of supply chain mapping and risk identification and Business Partner Management.

The event also allowed the development of a training in cybersecurity, merchandise/transport security and agricultural safety – container inspection.

It should be noted that the OAS program is considered a key factor in promoting a
safe, transparent and predictable trading environment, through the voluntary demonstration of the
compliance with the provisions in trade-related operations. And the
Modern Customs administration is uniquely positioned to guide the
national security response in the broader context of the global supply chain.
