The Government of Peru signed a technical cooperation agreement with South Korea to promote the attraction of foreign investment in the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in the Andean country.
This was announced on Wednesday (23.11.2022) by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) in a statement following the meeting between the head of that portfolio, Roberto Sánchez, and the South Korean ambassador to Peru, Yungjoon Jo.
In this official document, the head of Mincetur expressed the satisfaction of the Peru for the upcoming start of the negotiation process for the Free Trade Agreement between the Pacific Alliance and South Korea, with a view to becoming an Associate State of the Pacific Alliance
According to Mincetur, Peruvian exports to South Korea have grown steadily over the past two decades, reaching their highest value in 2021, totaling USD 2.827 billion.
The meeting was attended by the executive president of Promperú, Amora Carbajal, as well as the director of Asia, Oceania and Africa of Mincetur, Gerardo Meza.
"In Peru, there are currently 4 SEZs in operation. In Tacna, Piura, Moquegua and Arequipa. "Our goal is to position them as competitive and attractive platforms for foreign investment," said the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Miguel Palomino. The official also added that cooperation is a key component of foreign policy, as it contributes to national development.
For her part, Claudia Parra, general director of the General Directorate of Foreign Trade Facilitation of Mincetur, said that the signing of the agreement marks the beginning of a project that will favorably influence the country's competitiveness.
