According to the ministry's statement, Foreign trade has been making a decisive contribution to economic recovery product of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Peru is a country open to trade and foreign investment. This is the commitment of this government led by President Pedro Castillo. We continue to work hard in the search for new markets and strengthening bilateral relations with our trading partners. The goal is to generate employment and improve the quality of life of our people.” He stated the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez.

In the field of exports, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), over the years, has been working to expand the export base of the country so that micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, associations, organizations and cooperatives can take advantage of the opportunities offered by foreign markets. Not only that, it also seeks consolidate exporting companies, In addition to promoting market diversification and greater added value of products, based on innovation, quality and sustainability.

As is known, in the 2000-2021 period, the exporting Peruvian exports of goods increased from less than USD 7 billion to more than USD 000 billion, a value that constitutes an all-time high. Meanwhile, the import of goods went from US$ 6 million in 866 to more than USD 2000 million in 46. A clear sign that the path taken was the right one.

Utilization studies

A very important tool for evaluating trade policy is being able to quantify the level of effective use of the trade agreements that Peru negotiates and manages to put into effect. For this reason, Mincetur has begun the development of various studies on the use of the trade agreements in force that our country maintains.

“In this way, we analyse the evolution of the total flows of trade in goods (imports and exports) recorded during the period of validity of the trade agreement. In cases where the information is available, those bilateral trade products that effectively receive preferential tariff treatment within the framework of the trade agreements signed are identified,” said Minister Sánchez.

He added that Mincetur sees the need to identify the main products exported by Peru, both traditional and non-traditional, including agricultural, fishing, textile, and handicraft products, among others, to which we give added value; as well as new exported products and new exporting companies. Imports are also analyzed to assess possible negative impacts on our producers.

To date, Mincetur has developed 18 studies on the use of trade agreements, which are located in the repositories for each trading partner located on the web www.agradoscomerciales.gob.pe
