Peru, represented by the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT) was elected, for the first time, to occupy the Regional Vice Presidency of the World Customs Organization (WCO) in the period 2022-2024, SUNAT reported via the social network Twitter.
The country was chosen as the representative of the region during the “XXIV Regional Conference of Directors General of Customs of the Americas and the Caribbean” which takes place between May 02 and 03, 2022.
During the regional conference, Marilú Llerena, Deputy Superintendent of Customs at SUNAT, who will assume this representation, thanked the customs authorities for their support and stressed his commitment to working towards a digital, competitive, integrated and inclusive region.
Furthermore, recognized the work of the Superintendency of Tax Administration of Guatemala, led by Werner Ovalle, during the period 2020-2022, and highlighted its leadership in the adoption and dissemination of good practices in customs matters and initiatives for the use of the Spanish language in WCO forums.
This meeting, held under the motto “Smart Customs connecting to a safer world”, brings together representatives from 26 countries in the Americas and the Caribbean to strengthen levels of cooperation, the exchange of information and best practices for the development and implementation of regional strategies, according to official information.
The XXIV Regional Conference of Directors General of Customs is co-organized by the Customs Administration of Honduras and the Customs of Guatemala, in its capacity as Regional Vice-Presidency for the Americas and the Caribbean of the WCO.
