Paraguay will be an ally for initiatives that help strengthen Mercosur during the temporary Uruguayan presidency," said the designated foreign minister, Luis Alberto Castiglioni, prior to the meeting held between Tabaré Vázquez and the president-elect of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez this Monday (2.7.2018).
According to the official text, Castiglione added that the priorities are to complete the negotiations with the European Union and move forward other initiatives as an agreement with China.
"The two countries have a very similar relative reality, therefore, they have a lot in common and they have a lot to do together," added the next foreign minister of Paraguay, in statements to the Uruguayan press, within the framework of the meeting held this Monday in Montevideo between Vázquez and Abdo Benítez, together with the Uruguayan foreign minister, Rodolfo Nin Novoa, the vice president-elect of Paraguay, Hugo Velázquez, and the Paraguayan ambassador to Aladi, Hugo Saguier.
He added that “Paraguay will be a faithful and loyal ally in supporting initiatives that help strengthen Mercosur during Uruguay's temporary presidency.”
During the meeting, the president-elect of Paraguay invited Vázquez to participate in the inauguration of the new government on August 15, as he did on his first international tour with Presidents Michel Temer of Brazil and Mauricio Macri of Argentina.
