WCO participated in a high-level forum to improve international regulation

The World Customs Organization (WCO) participated last week in a high-level event, an initiative to support a more resilient, innovative and inclusive international regulations.

The event “Confronting global crises for better international regulation” was held on 13 and 14 September 2021 and was organized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). It was an opportunity to help governments strengthen, share and improve the international rules that frame our economies, societies and environment.

More effective rules

In the opening, Mathias Cormann, Secretary General of the OECD, launched the “CCompendium of practices of international organizations: Working towards more effective international instrumentsThe initiative examines regulatory practices, governance arrangements and organisational dynamics and sets out key principles to improve their implementation.

Following the launch of this common tool, WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya, He reflected on how to “Rethink and modernize international regulations to design better policies for the 21st century” with the other Heads of International Organizations: the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA).

On the one hand, Mikuriya described the proactive and inclusive approach taken by the WCO and its 183 member Customs administrations to ensure the smooth movement of goods during the COVID-19 pandemic.
