Panama and Guatemala exchange technological experiences in foreign trade and logistics

The National Customs Authority of Panama and the Superintendency of Tax Administration of Guatemala (SAT-GT) held a meeting this Monday (20.09.2021) with the technical team of the Logistics Cabinet of the Panamanian Government to exchange technological experiences in foreign trade and logistics.

According to the statement, delegates from the Government Innovation Authority, the Maritime Authority of Panama and the Digitalization Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic provided information to the Guatemalan customs about the National Logistics Agenda 2021-2022, as well as the advantages and uses of the Foreign Trade and Logistics Portal (Portcel) platform, which seeks to enable interoperability between various state and private entities.

Customs Director Tayra Barsallo highlighted: “It is an honour for us to have the Guatemalan customs team at our headquarters, to share experiences and show solidarity with the Central American sector in the integration process.”

Also, Engineer Iveth Villalaz, advisor on technological issues of the Customs Authority, highlighted the importance of "approach with the Guatemalan customs to present technological advances, the reality of the Covid pandemic and the integration of the teams of both governments in the search for common objectives.”

Among the impacts pursued with the Portcel platform are: digital payments, elimination of paper in payment procedures, centralization of cash collections and payments, and the possibility of implementing other payment schemes, among other advantages.

The meeting is part of the efforts of the integration agenda, under the vision that this process constitutes an instrument promoting development.

The team of exhibitors from Panama was made up of: the Deputy Administrator of the AIG Luis Carlos Stoute, Héctor Mendoza from the Presidency and the Head of Port Operations of the Panama Maritime Authority, Jonathan Guerini. Regarding the delegation from Guatemala, it was made up of Lidia García (from the customs regulatory area), Jonathan García, Head of customs departments, and Carlos Muñoz, Head of the Institutional Security Unit, SAT.
