Pilotage and piloting service is made official

-

The Ministry of Transport of the Nation, through the Undersecretariat of Ports and Waterways, will regulate the pilotage service to guarantee greater competitiveness in the sector and reduce the logistics costs of production.

El Decree 874 / 2017, points to the Undersecretariat of Ports and Waterways as the competent authority to regulate pilotage and piloting services, essential to guarantee the safety of navigation in the canals and ports of the Argentine system.

Navigation Law 20.094 establishes that Pilotage and piloting is a public, regulated and mandatory serviceFor this reason, the national state, in fulfilling its obligations, must establish both the rate and the regulations that those who provide it must comply with. The decree then comes to order the rights and obligations of those who provide the service, and those who must contract it.

The provision modifies the regulations in force since 1991 and stipulates that "the transport services necessary to ensure the embarkation and disembarkation of the pilot, whether land, water and air, may be freely provided and/or contracted by the users, by the pilots or by third parties."

The decree, published in the Official Gazette, is signed by Mauricio Macri, Marcos Peña and Guillermo Dietrich
