Ricardo Treviño Chapa has resigned as head of the General Customs Administration (AGA) to run for the position of deputy general secretary of the World Customs Organization (WCO), according to a statement from the Tax Administration Service (SAT).
La The election for the OMA post will be held on December 14, 2017.
Treviño took over as head of the AGA in 2015. His administration gave the organization a strategic role in terms of competitiveness, security and tax collection in Mexico, consolidating foreign trade as one of the fundamental drivers of the economy by contributing 65% of the national GDP, the statement said.
On the other hand, Ricardo Treviño promoted the “Customs of the 21st Century”, a modernization plan to accelerate and facilitate commercial logistics, mainly between Mexico and the United States.
Along these lines, it implemented the Customs Technological Integration Project (PITA), the update of the Foreign Trade Single Window (VUCEM 2); as well as joint customs clearance with the United States, the update of the Customs Operation Manual, among others.
Ricardo Treviño will leave on 30 November 2017 to seek a position as Deputy General Secretary of the WCO.
