Mexico: Auto production and exports fall in July

La production of vehicles in Mexico fell by 3,7% in July compared to the same month in 2017, while the exports They lowered a 5,5%, excluding data from Nissan, one of the main players in the industry, the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA), the largest association in the sector, said on Monday.

La Production was 291.577 vehicles, while shipments abroad reached 214.984 units, without include data from the Japanese manufacturer Nissan, detailed the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA).

Mexico export Most of its car production is United States, its largest partner under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which also includes to Canada.

First semester 

Production. In cumulative figures, production in the period January-July was 2.247.787 vehicles, 0,1% more than in the same period last year, while exports totaled 1.665.178 units, an increase of 8,1%.

"Production growth is marginal, but it allows us to think that we will close the year with figures very similar to last year," said Fausto Cuevas, general director of AMIA, at a press conference.

In 2017, Mexico's vehicle production grew 8,9% year-over-year to 3.773.569 units, while exports increased 12,1% to 3.102.604 units, both reaching record highs.

What companies does AMIA group together?

The AMIA brings together the units of the U.S. Ford and General Motors, the Japanese Honda, Mazda, Nissan and Toyota, the German Volkswagen and the Italian company Fiat Chrysler (FCA).
