The President of Argentina, Mauricio Macri, opened this Wednesday (20.3.2019) in Buenos Aires the international summit on South-South cooperation of the United Nations (UN), in which representatives from 193 countries participate. The objective of this meeting is to exchange technical capacities between States to solve internal problems and facilitate bilateral or multilateral agreements in areas such as Human Rights, security, technology or the environment.
As with the 11th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and with the G20 presidency, we have demonstrated once again that the international community perceives our country as a reliable partner, a protagonist, with a vocation to collectively build the governance of the XNUMXst century., Macri said, highlighting the role of Argentina.
The president has tried to spread a positive message regarding his country as a "reliable partner," despite the difficulties its economy is going through. "Cooperation is a great tool to promote ties between countries with different levels of development," Macri stressed.
The summit will host more than 22 plenary sessions until next Friday, to resolve problems such as the mechanisms for dealing with drug trafficking or the incorporation of new technologies in Buenos Aires to the functioning of the Administrations.
This is the second such conference to take place in 40 years. The first was also held in the Argentine capital and resulted in the so-called Buenos Aires Action Plan (PABA). The aim is also to discuss the rules for this type of cooperation in the future, incorporating the principles of the Paris Agreement on climate change.
"It does not replace North-South cooperation, but rather complements and enriches it. South-South cooperation is the backbone of regional integration, it brings peoples closer together and facilitates the processes of political agreement that make us stronger," concluded the President of the UN General Assembly, María Fernanda Espinosa, during the opening of the summit.
Aduana News is the first Argentine customs newspaper to launch its digital version. With 20 years of experience, its publications and initiatives aim to provide the most relevant knowledge on customs issues in order to contribute to safe trade in the region.
