During the Intersectoral Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Economic Integration (COMIECO) and the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America and the Dominican Republic (COMISCA), held on Thursday, May 28, 2020, the following were approved: Biosecurity Guidelines, in light of COVID-19, applicable to the Central American Land Transport Sector, that came into force on 7 June 2020, reported the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SICA).
The document was prepared by the Interinstitutional Group made up of representatives of COMIECO, COMISCA, migration authorities, the Central American Customs Committee, the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA), the General Secretariat for Central American Integration (SG-SICA) and the Executive Secretariat of COMISCA, highlighted the release.
The following are detailed in the text: objectives of the Biosafety guidelines:
- Establish coordinated procedures to prevent the spread of COVID-19;
- ensure the health of cargo transporters, cleaning and disinfection of means of transport and the fluidity of trade at land border posts;
- safeguard the health of citizens and officials carrying out checks at land border posts and that of users;
- ensure the development of operations carried out at land border posts for the passage of goods, means of transport and carriers; and,
- Strengthen the coordination and cooperation of the authorities that exercise controls at land border posts, both at the national level, at the binational level between adjacent border posts, and at the regional level.
Among the member countries of the technical and administrative body of the Central American Economic Integration Process, SICA, are: Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Belize and Dominican Republic.
