Argentine Customs celebrated Animal Day at the Regional Dog Training Center

The Argentine Customs celebrated this Saturday (29.04.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) Animal Day at the Regional Canine Training Center located in Boulogne (Province of Buenos Aires), with a ceremony recognition of 14 drug-detecting dogs.

This Guide and Dog School is a benchmark in the Americas and the Caribbean for developing a quality product inspired by international standards and best practices with a sense of responsible ownership and animal welfare. In fact, Customs made reference to this characteristic and recalled that the establishment was certified by the World Customs Organization (WCO).

The organization detailed that on this occasion 14 dogs were retired: Gody, Alan, Buzz, Maggie, Tachito, César, Tito, Dorkas, Lola, Nacho, Luna, Benito, Renata and LisaThe highest authorities of AFIP – Argentine Customs, SUPARA and authorities, teachers and students of the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús school in the town of Boulogne participated in the recognition activity.

Among the achievements of such animals, the participation of the dog BUZZ in 2013 is mentioned when the Argentine Customs presented its “Project to work with detector dogs” at an event and exhibition organized by the OMA.

In line with Animal Day, Guillermo Michel, Director General of Customs, assured that “from 60 days of life, the training of the detector dogs begins, and most of them, together with their guide, dedicate between 6 and 9 years to work in different operational areas of the Customs”. And he specified: “To fulfill our mission as a training school for detector dogs, to ensure animal welfare and responsible ownership, today we are giving this recognition and retirement to the dogs that served the country in the fight against drug trafficking and illegal activities in international trade”.

The ceremony highlighted the crucial role of dogs as essential work instruments for the General Directorate of Customs, since they act as non-intrusive control elements that allow for greater effectiveness, efficiency and streamlining of control.
