Northern Chile: Customs and police receive training on the Global Container Control Program

-

A select group of officials from the National Customs Service and police from the northern region of Chile began an intensive training in X-ray image interpretation in Iquique on Monday (04.05.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX). The training is part of the Global Container Control Program (CCP) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Customs Organization (WCO), under the coordination of the Ministry of the Interior and which from June will also involve work at the Santiago airport.

The training also includes Customs officials, members of the PDI, Carabineros, Navy and the Strategic Coordination Unit of the Northern Zone, who, in addition to training in image interpretation, will receive key knowledge related to port logistics, security methods, seals, declaration formats, stowage and weights, among other data relevant to their investigations.

The CCP Program, which is present in more than 80 countries, seeks to share good experiences and promote teamwork and work between nations, in order to better confront organized crime.

El Program Coordinator (CCP) for the Southern Cone, Nicolás Benza, highlighted the commitment and support of all Chilean government agencies and the support of the United States embassy. “Last year we conducted initial training and this year we are strengthening our capabilities again. We can say that there is a strong commitment from both the Chilean government and the agencies that are part of the port control units.”

The main objective of the Program is the creation of multi-agency groups that work on equal terms to confront organized crime and the different problems that can affect ports. “Global experience indicates that this inter-agency work is very positive, where information is shared and joint work is done in pursuit of a common objective, which is the fight against organized crime in its different forms.”

"Iquique leads the program in Chile, which is also present in the port of San Antonio," said the Customs Office.
