In the coming days, the Government of Honduras will launch the “Paperless Customs” project in Puerto Cortés, which in its first stage will be implemented in the process of clearing merchandise declarations.
According to the Honduran Customs Administration, the initiative aims to Facilitate trade through faster customs clearance. For this purpose, the agency will proceed to eliminate paper in the customs import procedure. through the use of high-end tablets (donated by the United States Agency for International Development, also known by its acronym in English, USAID), the process reengineering and coordinated action of the actors in the commercial logistics chain.
Thus, the Customs control officers of Puerto Cortés will verify the documents of the Central American Single Declaration (DUCA) using these new technological tools.
This paperless trade involves conducting transactions on the basis of electronic exchange of data and trade-related documents, in contrast to the conventional way using paper documents.
Paperless exchange benefits the environment by reducing waste generation, consumption of natural resources and energy. Also, saves costs and time. Y helps to streamline business procedures before the arrival of the goods at the port, within a framework of interoperability between control bodies and logistics operators.
