Trade facilitation between Bolivia and Chile highlighted after 24-hour border opening

Bolivian authorities highlighted the facilitation of trade that 24-hour attention at two main border posts with Chile entailed, provision implemented since May 15The measure is being implemented in the areas of Pisiga and Colchane, as well as Tambo Quemado and Chungará. 

"Only during the first day of 24-hour continuous attention at the two borders, there has been a 45% increase in the transit of means of transport," said the Executive President of the Bolivian National Customs, Karina Serrudo.

“Normally there was an average of 847 means of transport per day, but that day 1.197 passed through both border points,” said Serrudo.

Bolivia welcomes the measure, as the borders with Chile had never been manned for more than 10 hours to access Pacific ports, which "resulted in increased costs for the logistics chain of operators."

"The Government is marking a historic milestone, as we are setting out for Chilean ports without any restrictions, neither for people nor for tourist vehicles nor cargo from exporters and importers," Serrudo stressed. 

Bolivian authorities pointed to "a 17% increase in bilateral trade flow"“ral”.

“This is proof that when we manage to talk and work together, we get better results. We hope to work in the same way with other Bolivian government agencies to protect our borders,” said the official. Consul of Chile in Bolivia, Rafael Velasco.
