Argentina and Brazil will sign a protocol to avoid double taxation on products and tax evasion between the two countries and hope to celebrate the signing ceremony during the Mercosur Summit, which takes place this Friday (21.07.2017) in Mendoza, Argentina.
This was announced by the Argentine Foreign Minister, Jorge Faurie, after holding a working meeting in Brasilia with his Brazilian counterpart Aloysio Nunes Ferreira on Monday (17.07.2017) in Brasilia.
Argentina is the third destination for Brazilian exports, while Brazil is the main market for Argentine exports. Bilateral trade, which exceeded 22 billion dollars in 2016, increased by almost 20% in the first five months of 2017 compared to the same period of the previous year.
"We agree on the need to remove the obstacles that prevent Mercosur from fulfilling its vocation as a free trade zone. We are removing more than half of the barriers that existed,” he said. Nunes.
One of the initiatives for the coming months will be the implementation of a mobile consultation to serve Brazilian and Argentine citizens in various parts of the world.“The two consulates will work together and we will also share a caipirinha, an empanada and a mate,” he joked. Faurie.
The foreign ministers also discussed the trade agreement with the European Union. “We have the expectation and firm will to reach a good understanding that satisfies both parties, the European Union and Mercosur. Now, thanks to a convergence of international circumstances and also a convergence in the vision of the Mercosur countries, we will be able to finalize this agreement that we have been negotiating for a long time,” stressed the Brazilian foreign minister.
Negotiations between the blocs began in 1999, were interrupted in 2004 and resumed in 2010. The partnership between the regions covers goods, services, investments and government purchases.
