Argentina has the highest operating costs in the region: ALALOG

-

The Latin American Logistics Association (ALALOG), an entity that brings together national associations linked to this industrial activity, presented its first regional survey, within the framework of the new program of activities that the institution has been carrying out since the recent renewal of authorities.

The technical team of the entity carried out an analysis of Regional Cost Indicators that covered 8 of the 10 countries that make up ALALOG and that places Argentina at a clear competitive disadvantage compared to the rest.

The The countries that participated in the survey were Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.. All of them were asked about various specific drivers for this analysis, which are related to a logistics operation, and whose values correspond, approximately, to the month of June 2017.

In this sense, for the fuel costsArgentina has the second highest value, 2% more expensive than Brazil; only surpassed by Uruguay (+9%), the most expensive in the region.

Where one of the most notable differences occurs is in costo de la myear of work. As for the amount a long-distance driver charges, Argentina is the most expensive, 77% above the cheapest in the region and 36% above Brazil. The same happens with the cost of a logistics operator, where Argentina is also the most expensive, 39% above Brazil and 68% above Paraguay, which is the cheapest in the sample.

Also in the cost of lubricants and oils, Argentina is among the most expensive, a position it shares with Bolivia, which places it 54% above Brazil.

On the other hand, where the trend is turning around is in the cost of tires, since Brazil is 35% more expensive and Argentina is among those with the lowest cost. The same occurs in the value per square meter of rent: Brazil is 16% more expensive than Argentina and, in this section, even Paraguay is 25% higher than Argentina.

Finally, it can be concluded that -taking into account the specific drivers outlined for this report-, Argentina is positioned as the country with the highest operating cost in Latin America. Taking a weighted average, It is 24% more expensive than Brazil, its main partner in Mercosur; and 70% more expensive than Bolivia, the cheapest in the region.

"In short, it is clear that Argentina will have to work hard on its productivity or on finding compensations that allow it to neutralize the very high values of its operating cost components," the organization reported in a press release.
