-

Argentina has incorporated Mexico into the Electronic Phytosanitary Certification system (ePhyto), the digital version of the phytosanitary certificate that facilitates international trade in plant products, SENASA recently announced.

The term ePhyto is short for electronic phytosanitary certificateIn simple terms, it contains the data of a traditional phytosanitary certificate in digital format, streamlining procedures, reducing errors, and promoting safer trade between countries.

According to official data from SENASA, Mexico positions itself as a strategic destination within this network. During 2025, certifications were granted for that country. 136.000 tons of plant products, The main products were wheat (40.000 tons), beans (22.000 tons), sawn pine wood (19.000 tons) and pears (almost 15.000 tons), reflecting the diversity of Argentina's export basket in this segment.

ePhyto also helps countries comply with Articles 7.9 (release of perishable goods) and 10.1 (simplification of formalities and documentation for cross-border trade) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement.
