The Argentine export of 26.320 megawatts occurred last week during a peak in consumption in the eastern country and in the face of the low flow of the Uruguay River that prevented full production from the Salto Grande hydroelectric dam, located about 15 km north of the cities of Salto (Uruguay) and Concordia (Entre Ríos province), Argentina.
This was highlighted by the Minister of Energy, José Aranguren, at an event held at the inauguration of a thermal power plant at the Vaca Muerta deposit in the province of Neuquén, on Friday (23.3.2018).
"This is the first year, after the implementation of policies brought by President Macri's government, that we can say that we have had surpluses and reserves. In fact, this week, we were exporting electricity, 150 megawatts, to Uruguay, which did not have access to energy because there were no good winds or there was a low water level in the Uruguay River. "As in the past they supplied us, now we are the ones supplying them," said the Argentine minister.
The import was made at a price lower than the cost of energy generation at the Delta del Tigre combined cycle plant.
