The Maritime Port and Naval Industry Federation of the Argentine Republic (FeMPINRA), led by Juan Carlos Schmid and made up of 17 unions, announced a 24-hour strike, May 24th Starting at 10:XNUMX a.m., we will march to the Ministry of Labor (MTEySS) to demand what is detailed in the statement:
Over the last few years and under different administrations, our Federation has formulated a series of proposals aimed at resolving the challenges implied by the new profile of foreign trade.
Unfortunately, at the end of last year the Executive Branch vetoed the instruments that aimed to recover the naval industry and the merchant marine, thus giving up the presence of the national warehouse in our waters and shipbuilding in our shipyards.
At the same time, the transformation projects required for investments in the port perimeter (such as concessions) despite arduous negotiations do not provide details or security regarding employment.
All this is happening in a context shaken by the financial crisis and the re-entry of the IMF into the national scene.
It is no use declaring that this financial institution does not now have the same thinking as the 90s. We workers know first-hand that its recipe was the one that sent dock workers to the streets in 94, maritime workers with the privatization of ELMA and the River Fleet, naval workers with the destruction of the industry,
The reason given has always been and is the fiscal issue, the closing of public accounts, the balance of the nation, but the Nation is made up of men and women who cannot be treated as numbers. The reason has always been the blessed cost of labor. Was it perhaps this cost that caused the bank run, encouraging speculation, easy money that instead of helping production, disappears into the hands of the usual smart ones?
The real reason is that the economic program is not working, inflation is not decreasing, consumption is falling, services are increasing and we are victims of the mistakes made. Therefore, the unions grouped in FeMPINRA have decided to call a 24-hour strike on May 24th starting at 10 am with a mobilization to the Ministry of Labor (MTEvSS).
And they claim:
– Demand the full reactivation of the Río Santiago shipyards.
– Extend the current concessions of the Port of Buenos Aires until the completion of the infrastructure works concerning the Exterior Terminal and reject any type of layoffs in the sector.
– Reject vetoes applied to laws that allow the development of the Naval Industry and the Merchant Navy.
– Questioning the fishing agreements with the Nordic countries and Great Britain that harm the national interest, neglecting sovereignty, fish resources and the renewal of our fishing fleet.
– Demand equal conditions policies in the sand production sector and dredging companies.
– Urgently demand the clean-up of the river passenger transport service in the Buenos Aires Delta, which affects 15.000 isolated people and hundreds of families without education and health care.
– Demand the participation of workers in the sector in the negotiations of the Mercosur transport treaties with the European Union.
– Demand and require the immediate supply of bunker fuel to guarantee the continuity of the activity and the respective sources of work.
– Denounce that in the last repair orders from Argentine shipowners, Tandanor produced overprices never seen before and almost a provocation to empty the plant of content. The shipowners fled in terror and production fell noticeably. Will they want the lands of the shipyards and ports for the real estate business?
– For all the above reasons, we ask the CGT to speak out on these issues and call for a general strike.
