A specific inspection and control procedure for cargo vehicles seeking alternatives to enter Chile, due to the closing of Christ the Redeemer, is being applied by the National Customs Service, in conjunction with the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG)
According to the Border Crossings Unit (UPF), due to the new frontal system affecting the central area of the country, Los Libertadores Pass will remain closed at least until Sunday, September 10.
For this reason, the Presidential Delegation of Los Andes has recommended that passengers reschedule their trips, and that transporters choose other entry options, such as the Jama passes in the north of the country, and Pino Hachado or Cardenal Samoré in the south.
El Head of the Department of Operations of the National Customs Service, Cristian Merino, indicated that “we are implementing a special plan that consists of reinforcing the 3 steps suggested as an alternative to Libertadores in regards to attention to cargo vehicles, which applies facilitation measures, but at the same time allows ensuring the correct inspection of cargo and vehicles. However, it is essential to have the collaboration of transporters and dispatchers, who must arrive at the controls with all the necessary documentation.”
Merino indicated that the basic recommendations for transporters and dispatchers are three: prioritize the processing of the Import Declaration (DIN); ensure that all information is sent correctly and that it complies with the requirements; and communicate the situation to the carrier or its representative in order to expedite the process. What Customs seeks with this measure is to collaborate with foreign trade flows to and from Argentina, considering the importance for both countries of being able to keep international traffic operational.
