Customs defines work guidelines against money laundering together with the UIF and the CNV

The General Directorate of Customs together with the Financial Information Unit (UIF) and the National Securities Commission (CNV) agreed this Friday (08.09.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) to define "new working mechanisms"which will allow us to strengthen and promote the prevention and repression of money laundering crimes and their precursors, especially drug crimes.

He announced it in a statement on inter-institutional working groupl for the prevention of money laundering in Rosario (Santa Fe), in which it was also recalled that this space - made up of such organizations - was created last August within the scope of the Ministry of Economy and stipulated in the Joint Resolution 2/2023.

“This is a very important step and marks a state policy. Our commitment is to continue generating tools that allow us to combat money laundering and organized crime,” said Guillermo Michel, head of Customs.

According to the statement, the aforementioned inter-institutional team meets twice a month, alternating between Rosario and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. On this occasion, the institutional leaders who will coordinate the joint actions were presented.

The fight against organized crime is a central objective for this working group, so during the meeting members of the Customs Drug Trafficking Department spoke about the work they do against drug trafficking networks that operate in the Paraná-Paraguay waterway.

The meeting was closed by Diego Carlos Figueroa, Deputy Director General of Customs Control, and Juan Carlos Otero, President of the UIF. Provincial representatives of the DGI, members of the Judiciary and the Public Prosecutor's Office also participated.

The Customs Office stressed that it has been constantly fighting drug trafficking through different control actions. And it recalled that the Customs Office was inaugurated (June 2023) Rosario Port Operational Unit Office which is part of the Container Control Program promoted by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Customs Organization (WCO). It is a national and international alliance to deepen the fight against organized crime and to carry out greater control of foreign trade. Also, the UIF opened (April 2023) the Regional Agency, based in Rosario and with jurisdiction in the provinces of Córdoba and Santa Fe.

"The establishment of this group constitutes an institutional complement that will allow us to strengthen and articulate more effectively the fight against money laundering, promoting the coordination and execution of actions concrete," the statement added.
