The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) inaugurated on Tuesday (27.06.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) the Office of the Operational Unit of the Port of Rosario (Santa Fe) which will be part of the Container Control Program promoted by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Customs Organization (WCO).
According to the official statement, the action is part of the DGA's strategic plan in the fight against drug trafficking. The Global Container Control Program is a national and international alliance aimed at strengthening the fight against organized crime and ensuring greater control of foreign trade.
About, Guillermo Michel, Director General of Customs, he said: “This office will allow us to monitor all container movements in real time. We will be able to cross-check the incoming and outgoing loads. We propose that the work must be done jointly with the security forces, with the justice system, with the Public Prosecutor's Office and with the private sector.”
According to the DGA, in addition to Guillermo Michel, the coordinator of the container control program in Argentina, Nicolás Benza, was present at the inauguration of this important office; the political attaché of the U.S. Embassy, Jessica Kuhn; and the prosecutors of PROCUNAR, Diego Iglesias and Matías Scilabra.
It is worth noting that the UNODC-WCO Container Control Programme is an initiative that was created with the aim to strengthen the capabilities of customs law enforcement agencies to identify and stop illicit trafficking while facilitating legitimate trade.
Along with this tool, Customs said it continues to incorporate technological material to the port of Rosario to deepen the inspections that the specialized agents have already been carrying out. For this reason, “In September, a scanner will be in operation that will allow 120 containers to be inspected per hour. This will be supplemented by 5 tractor scanners to carry out even more thorough inspections," the same official source stressed.
