With the final results of the last auction of 2017 held in Valparaíso during the first days of November, the National Customs Service of Chile closed its auction process that included three other auctions - Santiago, Iquique and another in Valparaíso - and that as a total collection allowed the treasury to recover $1.168.876.489 thanks to the awarding of 1.071 lots,
Regarding the collection, the national director of Customs, Claudio Sepulveda, stressed that "this is one more of the roles that we fulfill as Customs, contributing Millions of dollars of economic resources to the public coffers with the way we manage the auctions, working in a very concrete way for the development of the country."
Along the same lines, the deputy administrative director of Customs, Silvia Salinas, explained that "this type of auction is one of the ways through which the institution collaborates with the recovery and collection of income for the State, and for this reason we are extremely satisfied, given that this year We achieved almost 9% more revenue than the previous year. "
The last auction held at the port raised $154.808.095, with 177 lots awarded, with merchandise coming from the customs of San Antonio, Valparaíso and Los Andes.
Regarding this last auction of the year, it is worth noting that the highest amount paid was for lot 269, which corresponded to a used 2015 Volvo articulated hybrid passenger bus (electric + diesel), with a capacity of 41 seats, disabled access and air conditioning, among other specifications, which was awarded to the sole bidder for $28.361.000.
The catalogues made available to the public are composed of thousands of goods ranging from clothing, jewelry, wines, musical instruments, household goods, appliances, computer items, vehicles, machinery and spare parts that are under the custody of Customs, either in their own warehouses or in private warehouses.
Such products are auctioned off because they have become abandoned because their importer did not claim them after 90 days of storage; goods retained – whether in large shipments or from international passengers – that were not recovered because the corresponding taxes were not paid; and others are expressly abandoned or confiscated by Customs because they violated specific regulations.
These figures are complemented by the 2016 collection, which totaled $1.072.386.981 and 1553 lots awarded in 4 auctions. Thus, the Total collection 2016-2017 that the National Customs Service reports to the country rises to $2.241.263.470.
