The meeting of the WCO Political Commission concluded successfully

The 23th meeting of the Political Commission of the World Customs Organization (WCO) concluded on Wednesday, June 84, with the active participation of the Customs of Argentina, Canada, Chile, the United States of America, Guatemala and Mexico, reported the Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean.

For three days, the delegates of the Political Commission discussed virtually a wide range of topics: the Secretary-General's report on the progress of the WCO Strategic Plan, progress reports and topics of a strategic, technical and governance nature, the report and mandate of the Private Sector, the WCO COVID-19 Action Plan, guidelines on disaster management and supply chain continuity, the 2021-2022 Implementation Plan of the WCO Strategic Plan and the analysis of the environment. In addition, the proposal to extend for one year the mandate of the Working Group on the use of additional languages ​​in the WCO was presented.

In relation to the topics discussed, the Deputy Secretary General, Ricardo Treviño, stated that “the meeting was productive and positive among Members committed to the strategic agenda of the WCO.” And he detailed that the Political Commission provided elements such as environmental analysis, strategic plan, data analysis, risk mapping, electronic commerce, gender equality, Harmonized System, among others.

It should be remembered that the Political Commission is essentially an advisory body to the Council, the highest authority of the Customs of the World, and, as such, it makes the final decisions regarding the work and activities of the WCO.
