The Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) signed this Monday (31.10.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) a Memorandum of Understanding to provide a general framework for cooperation that facilitates and strengthens mutual collaboration in areas of common interest.
For this purpose, both institutions have identified in this document strategic areas: trade in services, foreign direct investment, trade facilitation and competition policy and regulation.
"Considering that cooperation between international organizations is important for progress, it is hoped that this alliance will be beneficial for UNCTAD and SIECA and will have an impact on the well-being of the more than 51 million Central Americans," the technical body stated.
He added: “With this fundamental step, we continue to contribute to the objective of establishing a region of peace, freedom, democracy and development in Central America.”
It is worth remembering that SEICA is the entity in charge of promoting efforts to gradually achieve the economic union of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.
Meanwhile, UNCTAD is a permanent intergovernmental body established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1964, which deals with issues related to trade, investment and development.
