In Honduras, the event was held today (04.05.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) II Joint Customs – Private Sector Forum of the Americas and the Caribbean region with the participation of customs representatives from 33 countries, the Regional Private Sector Group and the Honduran Private Enterprise Council.

The forum under the motto “Customs and the private sector have the same objectives for safer trade” The purpose of the event was to identify areas of opportunity, implement mechanisms and initiatives to strengthen the relationship between the customs systems of the region and the business sector, according to a statement from the Honduran Customs Administration.

In his opening remarks, the Regional Vice President of the World Customs Organization for the Americas and the Caribbean and Superintendent of Customs of Guatemala, Werner Ovalle He said: “The AMERICABE region has been an important reference for the second pillar of the SAFE Framework of the World Customs Organization, which clearly states that the promotion and strengthening of customs services is everyone's responsibility.”

In this regard, the Vice President stated that “the forum is an important space to jointly promote best practices, strengthen cooperation and implement regional strategies.” Given the prevailing commercial environment, he stated that the occasion will allow us to learn about good experiences regarding the authorized economic operator, single windows for foreign trade, studies on dispatch times, as well as continue to strengthen ethics and integrity in the region.

In turn, the Director of Customs Honduras, Fausto Cálix, He stated: “Customs services in the region work every day to implement mechanisms and initiatives to strengthen the security of the logistics chain and commercial operations, and to achieve a good working relationship between the public and private sectors, complying with the provisions of the WCO SAFE Framework.”

In turn, the President of the Honduran Council of Private Enterprise, Mateo Yibrin, He said: “We know that trade facilitation, administrative simplification, as well as logistics planning, are becoming more important every day in this globalized world.” He pointed out that “each of these elements strengthens customs processes that allow for increased trade flows, thus improving the economies of our countries.”

The meeting's agenda included the topic "Strengthening, cooperation and joint public-private work" addressed by the Regional Group of the Private Sector of the Americas and the Caribbean and the World Customs Organization.

In addition, at the same meeting, the following issues were discussed: three panels referring to: “Progress in the implementation of the Trade Facilitation Agreement in the AMERICARIBE region”, “The importance of Dispatch Time Studies in AMERICARIBE” and “Ethics and Transparency, a commitment of all”.

The II Joint Customs – Private Sector Forum was held after the XXIV Regional Conference of Customs Directors of the Americas and the Caribbean Region (CRDGA), and prior to the Meeting of National Customs Directors of the Multilateral Agreement on Cooperation and Mutual Assistance of Customs of Latin America, Spain and Portugal (COMALEP), according to the official communication.
