The National Government formalized the extension of the non-collection of export duties (“retentions”) on dairy products from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025, including.
The formalization was carried out with the Decree 557/2024, arguing that "it is necessary to contextualize the situation of the dairy market, which fluctuates due to various elements, including climatic conditions that impact its international prices and costs."
He recalled that "in the last semester, following the reduction to zero percent (0%) of the export duty rate, which was established by Decree No. 9/24, for certain dairy products and their derivatives, a gradual but constant year-on-year growth in the export volumes of dairy products was evident; this, even despite having lower average export prices than previous months, showing that the possibility of carrying out operations increased, to greater protection from fluctuations in the international price."
It is noted that the suspension of taxes levied on these export destinations for consumption had been announced at the end of last September. At that time, the measure was for 90 days, until the end of 2023. However, last January, the National Government extended it until June 30. Now it will go until June 30, 2025.
Refunds
Along these lines, the Government decided to maintain the same variables of the last 6 months of the year, and continues with a level of 0% refunds for these dairy products. According to the regulation issued by the Executive Branch, these represent a “high expenditure” for the State and their return “would alter the development of a transparent and competitive dairy market.”
