The book was presented last Thursday The World Customs Organization: Past, Present and Future through a virtual meeting, where Ricardo Treviño Chapa, Deputy Secretary General of the WCO, reflected on the trajectory of the flagship institution of the international customs community, whose purpose is to ensure the common good and development of its Members.
The book was Written by attorney Hector Juarez Allende y It is a 619-page investigation which covers the past, allows us to learn about the present and delve into the future of the institution, created in 1952.
Ricardo Treviño Chapa stressed that “this is the only book in recent history that allows us to learn about the history of the WCO and the role of customs officers in Spanish.” He added: “At this moment, we are experiencing the greatest effort in the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine and customs have a strategic role. This responsibility is palpable in the pages of the investigation.”

The book, structured in 18 chapters and 4 annexes, discusses the instruments relevant to daily customs work, which constitute the main parameters of the WCO, such as the Harmonized System Convention, the Revised Kyoto Convention, the SAFE Regulatory Framework, among many others.
The author addresses issues of particular interest to the global customs community, such as Cross-Border Electronic Commerce, Trade Facilitation, and the Agenda for the Future of Customs, in order to reconcile the various practical aspects of customs operations with their theoretical foundations.
The WCO's Agenda for the Future is also analysed, which provides an overview of the impact that these new technologies will have on the evolution of customs activity.
