The second Study of Dispatch Times in Bolivia is carried out at the Puerto Suárez crossing (border with Brazil) and at the Santa Cruz Interior Customs Office, with the aim of reducing processing times for importers and exporters, official sources reported.
In accordance with the international methodology of the World Customs Organization (WCO), "this study follows the model of the First of all which was carried out on the border with Argentina (Salvador Mazza – Yacuiba), contributing to successfully reducing the processing time for imports by 50%," said the Administrator of Customs at the Puerto Suarez Border, Hernan Alarcon.
To this end, the second study was divided into four phases sequential: preparation (from 10.03.2024 to 23.07.2024), data collection and recording (from 24.06.2024 to 06.07.2024), evaluation of the collected data (from 01.10.2024 to 15.09.2024) and conclusions (from 01.10.2024 onwards).
Alarcón said that all road transport vehicles and units, both with and without goods, that enter and leave the national territory through this border crossing were evaluated. “This includes all exports, imports, customs transit and ballast, up to the lifting of the goods,” he said.
For the Dispatch Time Study, a group was formed multidisciplinary team with border control institutions and foreign trade operators at the respective border.
The Santa Cruz Interior Customs Office is one of the relevant customs offices in terms of collection, with a 21,1% share, while Puerto Suárez's share is 6,6%. For this reason, this border has been selected for the second study, said the National Customs Office.
In view of this, the Dispatch Time Study constitutes for Bolivia an instrument that will allow the identification of bottlenecks in foreign trade operations and opportunities for improvement to implement an action plan aimed at strengthening border control and facilitating trade, according to the same official source.Press release y official announcement)
