Two Peruvian customs services recognized as Good Practices in Public Management 2021

The National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT) reported this Wednesday (21.07.2021) that two customs services, implemented for the benefit of taxpayers and foreign trade users, received recognition as Good Practices in Public Management 2021.

The award was given by Ciudadanos al Día, a private non-profit organization that since 2002 has evaluated and recognized innovative processes by companies to better serve citizens.

Thus, in the Digital Government Service category, it was distinguished the digital import model, implemented under recommendations of the World Customs Organization (WCO).

This practice facilitates the process of bringing goods into the country, as the platform eliminates the use of physical documents and replaces them with electronic formats, prioritizing the start of the procedures before the products arrive in the country to reduce clearance time and storage costs. 

"Thanks to the implementation of digital import, the time spent on the collection of goods was reduced by 50%, from 80 to only 40 hours, and 100% of physical documents were eliminated," SUNAT stated. 

Meanwhile, in the category Simplification of Procedures, the winner was Fast Delivery Shipping System (EER), since it benefits all individuals and companies that need to make imports for values ​​of up to two thousand dollars, using electronic commerce platforms. 

With this initiative, the Peruvian Customs Administration authorizes the delivery of products from abroad in just two hours, for subsequent distribution through the Rapid Delivery Shipments (EER) system. 

According to SUNAT, this process took up to 35 hours before the start of the pandemic. The new service benefited 310000 citizens and companies that receive more than a million products from abroad per year, whose total import value amounts to 215 million dollars, with shipments not exceeding 2000 dollars. 

Official information indicates that the Digital RUC services (a unique eleven-digit number that identifies both legal and natural persons as taxpayers) were also recognized as Good Practices in Public Management 2021; it can be obtained from a cell phone, in just five minutes and without leaving home. Also the Electronic Notifications service, which speeds up effective and real-time communication with taxpayers and foreign trade users to know the status of the procedures they carried out.
