In order to make the procedures carried out transparent, the Government of Paraguay began the installation of the Customs Tax Fiscal Management System (Sofia) in all administrative processes of the National Navigation and Ports Administration (ANNP). In this way, it will be avoided that the collections of the ANNP's coffers are diverted again.
Modernization
Regarding technological modernization, Retamozo assured that the process of implementing and installing the system in the ANNP terminals will take time. “The system must be installed with , cameras, among others. In Chaco, this began on Monday morning, now the technicians are working in Ciudad del Este to be able to announce the operation of Sofia shortly, after which the ports of Falcón and Villeta will continue," he said.
The "mega project" that is being carried out for the re-conversion of the Port of Asunción is projected to become a "Puerto Madero" of Asunción, he said.
Retamozo also recalled that ANNP offices are being set up in the border area of Bolivia. “In the border town of Infante Rivarola, we found the abandoned checkpoint, so in November of last year we carried out maintenance on it,” he added.
Port in Rosario
Regarding the installation of a Paraguayan Port in the Argentine city of Rosario, he said that negotiations are at a very advanced stage.
“On Tuesday, ANNP officials will respond to the Argentine government's invitation to install a Paraguayan port in the port of Rosario. Afterwards, we will surely look for private companies to make a large investment in that place,” he said.
Navigability
The Government of Japan donated a convoy dredging project worth $28 million for the improvement of the navigability of Paraguayan rivers.
"That donation was stuck in Congress for more than 2 years and with this administration we have rushed and followed up very closely so that in 20 to 22 months we will have a convoy dredging that will improve the navigability of the Paraguay and Paraná rivers," he concluded.
