Paraguay extends inter-institutional control of containers

The Paraguayan Government extends for three years the inter-institutional work of container control after the signing of an agreement between the National Customs Directorate, the National Police and National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD).

La official information indicates that the Agreement extended for three more years; It was signed by the National Director of Customs, Julio Fernández Frutos, the Commander of the National Police, Francisco Resquín Chamorro, and the Minister of the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD), Arnaldo Giuzzio.

Thus, The three institutions, which had been working together on the Global Container Control Program, decided to extend the term of validity of the framework agreement for joint activities. The objective of this agreement is to common interest de improve public safety, prevent legitimate maritime cargo containers from being used for drug trafficking, prevent smuggling of goods, violations of intellectual property rights, possible acts of terrorism and money laundering, among other crimes.

The statement notes that "the agreement for the implementation of the Global Program for Container Control in the Republic of Paraguay specifies in its consideration that the initiative is promoted in light of the fact that there is currently an increase in criminal acts worldwide using containers."

In this regard, the initiative seeks to "optimize preventive actions carried out in the country's ports, with respect to operations involving maritime cargo containers, in order to reduce their use for illicit activities," the text concludes.
