-

It took only one year for the Paraguayan Congress to process the revised Customs Mutual Assistance Agreement with the United States, which was approved without difficulty on Wednesday (04.08.2021/XNUMX/XNUMX) by the Deputies and is now ready to become law.

This Customs Mutual Assistance Agreement (CMAA), updated in July 2020, provides a roadmap for how U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Paraguay Customs Administration will work together to enforce the law at the customs of both countries. In this regard, The treaty will discourage any form of fraud or illicit activity that violates the economic, fiscal and security interests of both countries..

The initiative is part of the United States' cooperation with Latin American countries such as Paraguay. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) collaborates with the National Customs Directorate and the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program, as well as with the visit of experts to assist in strengthening customs good practice programs and increasing the capacity of officials to investigate illegal activities.

In this regard, the implementation of the revised Customs Mutual Assistance Agreement will contribute to the legal strengthening of the State of Paraguay to address the identification of risks, the initiation of legal proceedings and the respective sanction of those who break the law.Press release from the National Customs Directorate)
