Panama: Customs finalizes details for the launch of the PORTCEL platform

The National Customs Authority (ANA) of Panama will launch, Starting in January 2023, the implementation of Foreign Trade and Logistics Technology Portal (PORTCEL), which will enable the transformation of foreign trade processes through interoperability between state systems and private actors, increasing the country's competitiveness.

Following this upcoming implementation, which responds to the requirements of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement, the customs agency reported that a delegation from the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (CCIAP) and some members of importing companies met with the ANA to learn first-hand about the inter-governmental website PORTCEL.

La Customs Director Tayra Barsallo, took advantage of the meeting where highlighted the benefits and projected repercussions on the national economy, as well as the importance of this country project, given the competition that Panama has with other countries in the region.

Barsallo stressed the fact that he is aware that any change generates fear, but he offered the necessary support to all members of the user chain such as shipping companies, freight forwarders, among others, so that the ANA technical team can support them in incorporating the new technological modality.

Meanwhile, Engineer Ivette Villalaz, who was part of the technical team that accompanied director Barsallo, referred to the need for this project to start on the scheduled date, in January 2023, because the CCIAP committee raised the possibility of an extension on the indicated date, and it was determined to start with those agents who are ready to join the new changes.

Moreover, the President of the CCIAP, Marcela Galindo, reiterated the need for Strengthen communication channels between both parties for the benefit of national trade.
