The leaders held a working meeting at the Argentine presidential residence in the Buenos Aires town of Olivos.

According to the press release, the two presidents highlighted the "response given by the bloc's member countries" during 2022 to the "global demands for products that MERCOSUR was able to export to the entire world," following the consequences of the war in Ukraine and the "impact" of the armed conflict on food and energy in Latin America.

"In this regard, the leaders confirmed the need to give even more dynamism to regional and extra-regional trade. And they valued the fact that the largest bilateral trade in history has been achieved, in addition to the decision of both governments to continue increasing it," the sources added.

Fernandez and Abdo Benitez too They highlighted the negotiations that MERCOSUR is carrying out with the European Union -to seal a free trade pact- to "reach a mutually beneficial agreement" that takes into account the "three dimensions" of sustainable, economic, social and environmental development" as a framework for a "deepening" of the bi-regional association.

Furthermore, they agreed on the need to strengthen regional economic activity and, in particular, bilateral trade.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, Santiago Cafiero, and his counterpart from Paraguay, Julio César Arriola.
