Guatemala implements actions to speed up flow at border with El Salvador

-

This week, the Guatemalan Tax Administration Superintendency (SAT-G) reported on the implementation of actions in the Pedro de Alvarado and Valle Nuevo Customs Offices (Southern Region), so that at these border crossings with El Salvador, controls are optimized and vehicle mobility is improved.

Such joint cooperation actions between SAT-G and the Guatemalan Migration Institute (IGM) are active since last February.

What are the actions

In Pedro de Alvarado Customs, whose main flow is cargo operations, the
authorities have enabled a sentry box at the height of the driver, located in the flow exporting from Guatemala to El Salvador, avoiding the driver having to park the vehicle, get off and get back on in order to complete the process.

In New Valley Customs, whose main flow of operations is the entry and exit of
nationals and tourists aboard light cars and buses, a system was put into operation lane and a sentry box from where the immigration authority exercises simplified control and facilitates the separation of flows.

As a result of customs cooperation and reciprocal inter-institutional assistance, such solutions will strengthen control, mitigate traffic congestion, reduce logistics times and improve the user experience when crossing the border, explained Guatemalan authorities.

It is recalled that the countries in that region of the continent are implementing national plans that respond to the Central American Trade Facilitation and Competitiveness Strategy with emphasis on Coordinated Border Management.
