Conceived as a result of joint efforts of the International Association of Ports and Terminals (IAPH) with the World Customs Organization (WCO), this Monday (26.08.2024) the "Guidelines on Cooperation between Customs and Port Authorities”, a publication that “offers best practices among customs and port authorities in advanced, emerging and developing countries over the past decades.”

In it, readers will be able to access ten contributions from the port and customs authorities of Germany, Australia, Bulgaria, China, United States of America, Guatemala, Italy, Indonesia, Jamaica and Morocco.

Prepared by a joint working team, with the “unwavering” support of Kunio Mikuriya (Secretary General of the WCO) and Patrick Verhoeven (Director General of Policy and Strategy of the IAPH), the publication began to take shape in 2022 to strengthen trade facilitation and supply chain security.

"I believe that these Guidelines, which are based on the principles of Coordinated Border Management and are in line with the provisions of the SAFE Framework of Standards (SAFE Framework) and the Revised Kyoto Convention (RKC), will be a valuable resource for the customs and port authorities, as well as for the private sector“, explains Dr. Kunio Mikuriya in the preamble.

"They provide clear and practical guidance on how to work together to improve the speed and predictability of trade flows, while ensuring the security and integrity of global supply chains.", he adds.

For his part, Patrick Verhoeven comments that “By adopting a common agenda with a strong and sustainable governance structure for exchanging 'single truth' data, port and customs authorities can ensure supply chain security, thereby improving trade facilitation in their respective countries.”s ".

Available through the website https://www.wcoomd.orgThe Guidelines on cooperation between customs and port authorities in Spanish have been made possible "thanks to the collaboration of SUNAT (Peruvian Customs)," according to the WCO on its social networks.

An effort to ensure that this 94-page publication can be read by Spanish-speaking professionals.
