Paraguay's exports amounted $8.107,9 million Last July, a 2,5% less than in the same period of 2021, the issuing bank reported this Wednesday (10.08.2022).
In its Foreign Trade Report for July 2022, the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) indicated that the registered exports represented 72,4% of the total, reaching USD 5.867,6 million, 8,5% lower than the accumulated value as of July 2021.
According to the data released, the re-exports, with 23,1% of the total, recorded a value of USD 1.870,1 million, with an increase of 27,3% compared to the same period last year.
The Other exports, with a 4,6% share, registered a decrease of 14,8% compared to the accumulated value up to July of the previous year, standing at a level of USD 370,2 million.
The observed reduction in registered exports is mainly explained by lower shipments of soybeans, electricity and rice.
Shipments made under the maquila regime reached USD 588,7 million, 19,2% higher than that recorded in the seventh month of 2021.
The report revealed that, in cumulative terms, the soybean exports have reached USD 1.082,5 million, with a reduction of 48,1% compared to the figure recorded in July of the previous year.
In terms of markets, Argentina has become the main destination for soybeans, with 76,6% of the total, followed by Brazil (15,9%).
The meat exports reached USD 1.129,1 million, representing an increase of 11,0% compared to USD 1.017,3 million in July of the previous year.
Meanwhile, in volume, it decreased by 2,1% compared to July 2021.
Chile was the main destination for meat, with 38,7% of the total export value, making purchases for USD 437,2 million, with a volume of 78,3 thousand tons in July. These figures indicate an increase of 5,5% in value and a reduction of 6,4% in volume.
Russia, the second most important destination, recorded reductions in both values (2022%) and volumes (19,7%) as of July 22,8.
Imports
The BCP revealed that, in July 2022, imports grew by 25%, totaling $8.492,6 million Compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the seventh month of 2022, China was the main country of origin of Paraguayan imports, with a 30,2% share, equivalent to USD 2.466,4 million, showing an increase of 31,9% compared to the same period in 2021.
Paraguay imported approximately USD 1.885,7 million from Brazil and USD 696,7 million from Argentina.
The BCP indicated that the balance tradel, as of July 2022, recorded a deficit of US$ 384,7 millones, a result different from the surplus recorded in the same period last year. (Foreign Trade Report July 2022 of the Central Bank of Paraguay)
