Launch of the new Chilean Institute of International Trade

-

The Chilean Institute of International Trade (ICHCI) is pleased to announce its official presentation on Next Thursday, October 28, at 9 a.m. (Chile time).

There is ample evidence that international trade is a topic of great interest for countries like Chile, where it contributes more than 60 percent of GDP, but its consideration must address challenges that go beyond tariff issues.

In this context, the new study center will hold the discussion «Challenges and prospects of the Multilateral International Trade System», which will be broadcast live from the Zoom platform. The event It will be headed by the Deputy Director General of the World Trade Organization, Anabel González, and will also be attended by the Deputy Secretary General of the World Customs Organization, Ricardo Treviño, and the former Deputy Secretary General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, Mario Matus.

Private sector professionals, public officials, academics and the general public will benefit from the interactive dialogue of the distinguished speakers on the trade panorama in a world characterized by certain protectionist tendencies such as those adopted at the time by the President of the United States, Donald Trump. In addition, there are phenomena that are not economic, but that affect international policies, such as climate change, migration and the legitimacy of institutions in relation to the multilateral system. In the words of the president of the ICHCI, Fabián Villarroel Ríos: “Many of our countries are experiencing political crises; for this reason, the activity will address how national and multilateral institutions continue to be valid to channel the changes that our countries require.”

Based on these challenges, the Chilean Institute of International Trade expressed interest in connecting with other public and private study centers in Chile and Latin America and the Caribbean to contribute analysis, knowledge and opinion on the matter.
