WCO and Central America deepen cooperation to work on the first regional study on clearance times

The World Customs Organization and the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA) agreed on Tuesday (20.10.2020) to work intensively on bilateral cooperation in order to carry out the first regional study on Dispatch Times.

This is a tool for measuring the time required for the clearance of goods. It measures the actual performance of customs activities, as they are directly related to the facilitation of trade at the border.

The online event was attended by the customs directors of the SIECA States and representatives of the World Customs Organization.

Ambassador Melvin Enrique Redondo, in charge of the SIECA Secretariat, clarified that "support to the Central American Customs Committee in the improvement and modernization of customs management It is carried out within the framework of the Central American Trade Facilitation Strategy with the technical support of the WCO and the financial support of the European Union.to ".

The measure will thus allow for the creation of a work plan for the simplification, modernization and harmonization of export and import procedures in the region under the leadership of the Council of Ministers of Economic Integration and the Central American Customs Committee.

The initiative is based on the measures provided for in the World Trade Organization's Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) and aims to promote transparency in foreign trade information.
