The General Directorate of Customs and the National Agency for Controlled Materials (ANMaC) signed an agreement that authorizes the Paraná Customs (in the province of Entre Ríos, east of the Paraná River) to intervene in the import and export of firearms, ammunition, accessories and other materials regulated by the control agency.
To this end, with the signing of the agreement, the Paraná Customs will be included in the list of customs offices authorized for such purposes and may proceed with the control and customs clearance of merchandise covered by the National Law on Weapons and Explosives that is registered in its jurisdiction.
The signing, held at the Customs headquarters (City of Buenos Aires), was attended by Guillermo Michel, General Director of Customs; Natasa Loizou, Executive Director of ANMaC; Paula Binder, National Director of Inspection, Safekeeping and Destruction of Controlled Materials; Carlos Fernández, Deputy Executive Director of ANMaC, and Silvina Toffolo, Director of Inspection.
According to the statement released on Wednesday, the physical verification of the products will be carried out jointly by the General Directorate of Customs, the ANMaC and the corresponding security forces.
Furthermore, based on this agreement, ANMac will be able to propose to Customs the authorization of new customs offices to participate in such operations. For its part, it will be up to the agency headed by Guillermo Michel to authorize these proposals.
Thus, the agreement has a series of and advantages extremely important for the General Directorate of Customs:
- It allows the federalization of the organization's control spaces through the creation of various operational points;
- Provides customs agents with the necessary specialization to intervene in operations involving weapons and explosives;
- It gives priority to the Paraná Customs Office and strengthens the controls of the Regional Hydroway Directorate.
